Sex and nudity in old video games

No matter what medium or form of art humans create, it will always be used for nudity or sex at some point. Humans have been creating pictures of other naked humans for tens of thousands of years, and we will be doing so for at least another ten thousand. It is just something that we do. But if aliens were to land on Earth tomorrow, I’m very sure that they would have many different types of media of themselves in different sexual positions and spouses while they have no coverings on. From paintings to statues to animation and video, there is no median that does not have sex or nudity depicted. So it did not surprise us when we learned that there had been nudity and sexual content in video games since their invention.

Naughty Pixels

The very first video games had the most rudimentary and basic animation. Many of the first video games were just a collection of pixels that the gamer could only control with a joystick and a button. The very first commercially viable video game that players could play in their own homes was Pong, but what about the very first game with nudity? What does that even look like? Well, it kind of looked like Pong.

The first video game to have a plotline centered around sex was the game Softporn Adventures. The game was completely text-based, and it’s graphics were not cutting edge in any sense of the word. The game was created by a programmer named Charles Benson, and it was only for the PC. Despite critics’ negative reviews and parental warnings, it was a massive success, and its success paved the way for many other adult video games. The game allowed the player to play as a gambler whose goal was to woo three women by finding different objects in the game and matching each one to a woman based on her personality. While different subgroups of people felt a bit of shame that this game was made in the first place, computer nerds all over the United States would end up playing the game late Into the night. Even Time Magazine said that it was a refreshing break from all of the other lame video games that were being churned out by the brand new game industry year after year.

The makers of Softporn Adventures said that they planned to make a version of the game for women, but it never happened.

Custer’s Revenge

If you were at least ten years old in 1982, then you may recognize the name of this video game. Custer’s Revenge was a video game specifically made for adults. It was a game set in the old west where the player controlled a cowboy named Custer, who had a constant and visible erection. This video game's only goal was to explore the town and search for Native American women to have sex with. As Custer, the player had to travel through mountains and avoid getting hit by arrows. When a player successfully completed a level of the game, they were then taken to a screen where a Native American woman was tied to a pole. The player was then allowed to have sex with the Native American woman for as long as they wanted before moving on. This game was not well-received. Since the Native American woman was tied to a pole, many people believe that the video game was advocating rape, which has been used throughout history against native populations. Custer’s Revenge sold about 80,000 copies before going off the shelves, and the price of the game was $50, which was extremely expensive at the time.

Burning Desire

It may not have been a smash hit, but Burning Desire was one of the earliest video games with adult content. Made with only simple pixels, the game was about a man who had a large erection and was tied to a helicopter. The purpose of the game was to save a woman who was surrounded by fire. In order to save her, the player had to aim the man’s erection over the fire and then make him cum put it out the flames. Then he would then stick his penis into the woman’s mouth and carry her off to safety. It was made for the Atari, and even though it was made so long ago, we’re still wondering what in the world the creators were thinking.

Grand Theft Auto

There’s no way we can have an article about sex and nudity in video games and leave out Grand Theft Auto. When the first Grand Theft Auto game came out in 1997, it was widely criticized for allowing players to beat up prostitutes, rob each other, carjack and beat up pedestrians, visit strip bars, and have the strippers dance for them. However, it went on to be a massive success, and four more Grand Theft Auto games were made. Each game has always had strippers, strip clubs, and prostitutes to interact with. Anyone who has entered into a Grand Theft Auto strip club knows that you can pay the women to become topless and pay them for a lap dance.

Human beings will always use different mediums and different art styles to depict naked people and people in the middle of intercourse.
